About maestra alaniz

As an educator, I find it important to be a lifelong learner. Each year, I do my best to try something new. This way I will always remember what it feels like to be a “student”. I hope to create an atmosphere in my classroom where students feel comfortable and excited about learning.

In high school I traveled to Spain, in college I road tripped from Seattle to Cancun and back, and after college I taught English in Colombia for a year. Over the years, I have hosted a total of seven foreign exchange students from all around the world. Also, during the summers, I work for a program called Compass USA where international students visit America and I get to teach them about the English language and our American culture.

Saving the best for last, I am a mother. My daughter is studying at Washington State University!  GO COUGS! I am so excited for her because attending WSU was an awesome experience for me! While attending WSU, I earned two degrees and did all the coursework for a Masters in Literacy Education. My first degree is a B.A. in Social Studies and my second degree is a B.A. in Foreign Languages and Literature.  I have a State of Washington Continuing Teacher certificate with endorsements in: Anthropology, Bilingual/Bicultural Education, Health/Fitness, History, Social Studies and Spanish.
